🧳 The Transit: The Departure & Log
We traded traditional birthday presents for a quick two-night getaway to New York City! Realizing it had been a hot minute since our last visit, we leaned into our credit card points and perks to curate a high-end, luxury escape with minimal out-of-pocket costs.
From smooth award flights to making the absolute most of airport perks—like relaxing in the Chase Sapphire lounge at LaGuardia before our return flight home—the travel logistics were seamless from start to finish.
🏨 The Basecamp:
For our home base, we checked into the Conrad New York Downtown booked through American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts. Thanks to elite perks and the FHR program, we were able to stack two $300 credits against our stay, secure an early check-in, and score a complimentary room upgrade to a stunning corner room featuring direct views of the Statue of Liberty. It provided the perfect, tranquil backdrop for a fast-paced Manhattan itinerary.
🗺️ The Album: The Trip Highlights
Day 1: NBC Tours, Soup Dumplings & Subway Navigation
After arriving in the city and settling into our room, we kicked off our sights with a tour of NBC Studios, getting a behind-the-scenes look at the iconic Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon sets.
For dinner, we headed to Din Tai Fung for an incredible meal of soup dumplings. We wrapped up the evening navigating the city streets, taking pride in only almost getting lost on the subway once!
Day 2: Financial District Landmarks, Movie Lore & Fine Dining
We dedicated our second day to exploring Lower Manhattan. We started with heavy, meaningful stops at One World Observatory and the 9/11 Memorial, followed by a walk through the architecturally stunning Oculus. While browsing, we stumbled upon the Pop Mart store and spent way too much money on collectible blind boxes!
For dinner that night, we booked a table at Delmonico’s—America’s very first fine dining restaurant. Beyond the incredible food and John Wick filming history, our waitress showed us the exact spot where historical figures like Mark Twain and Nikola Tesla used to sit. We walked off dinner by exploring local landmarks, taking in the Charging Bull, the Fearless Girl, and the exterior of the Continental Hotel.
Day 3: Late Checkout & Lounge Luxuries
On our final day, we maxed out our 4:00 PM late checkout perk at the Conrad, soaking in as much of the city as possible before heading to the airport. We capped off the getaway by spending time in the Chase Sapphire Lounge at LGA before boarding our flight back home, officially bringing a memorable birthday trip to a close.
